Usage Note

Superar means to overcome an obstacle (superar una crisis), to exceed a limit (superar el récord), or to outperform someone. The reflexive superarse means 'to better oneself' or 'to surpass one's previous performance'. It is a motivational staple: ¡Supérate! ('Push yourself!').
