solo

alone

adjective adverb SOH-loh Common

Also means

only

Usage Note

Solo doubles as an adjective (vino solo, 'he came alone') and an adverb (solo quedan tres, 'only three remain'). As an adverb it was traditionally written sólo with an accent to distinguish it from the adjective; the RAE now treats that accent as optional and recommends omitting it.

Examples

"Vivo solo en ese apartamento."

Natural Translation

I live alone in that apartment.

Literal Translation

I-live alone in that apartment
