soldador

welder

noun sohl-dah-DOHR Rare

Origin: From 'soldar' (to weld/solder), from Latin 'solidare' (to make solid).

Also means

soldering iron

Usage Note

Soldador has two senses depending on context: the person who welds (el soldador trabaja con metal) and the tool itself — a soldering iron (el soldador está caliente). The female form is soldadora for the person. Not to be confused with soldado (soldier): soldar comes from Latin solidare (to make solid), while soldado traces to solidus, the Roman coin in which soldiers were paid.

Examples

"El soldador unió las piezas de metal con precisión."

Natural Translation

The welder joined the metal pieces with precision.
