Usage Note
Secretario (masculine) / secretaria (feminine) covers both an administrative secretary and high-ranking political titles (Secretario de Estado = Secretary of State). Unlike English, the feminine form secretaria is extremely common because the role was long female-dominated, making the masculine form notable in political contexts. In Spain, secretario general is a common party leadership title.
Examples
"El secretario redactó el acta de la reunión."
Natural Translation
The secretary drafted the meeting minutes.
