Origin: From Latin rigare (to water).

Usage Note

Riego covers agricultural irrigation (sistema de riego) and medical perfusion (riego sanguíneo — blood supply to a tissue). The two senses are unrelated in feel but share the same word. The verb is regar (to water/irrigate), a stem-changing e→ie verb: riega, riegas.
