ploughshare
Usage Note
Reja most commonly refers to the decorative or security iron grille over a window or door, very characteristic of traditional Spanish and Latin American architecture. It also has an agricultural sense: the metal blade (ploughshare) of a plough. The expression entre rejas (behind bars) means in prison. Do not confuse with rejilla (a small grating or grille, also a wicker weave).
Examples
"La ventana tenía una reja de hierro forjado."
Natural Translation
The window had a wrought-iron grille.
