Refugiar is almost always used reflexively as refugiarse — se refugió en casa means 'she took refuge at home.' The non-reflexive form (refugiar a alguien) means 'to shelter someone.' The related noun refugio means 'shelter' or 'refuge', and refugiado/refugiada means 'refugee.'
