Usage Note

Referente functions as a noun meaning an authority, model, or point of reference (es un referente en su campo = 'she is a benchmark in her field'). It can also function as a preposition-like adjective in en lo referente a (= 'regarding, as regards'). Do not confuse with referencia (a reference or citation).
