Usage Note

Príncipe is the male royal title; the feminine counterpart is princesa. It also appears in metaphorical uses such as príncipe azul ('Prince Charming', literally 'blue prince'). The philosophical term El príncipe refers to Machiavelli's famous work. Note the written accent on the first syllable: prín-ci-pe.
