propicio

favourable, propitious

adjective proh-PEE-syoh Rare

Origin: Latin propitius (favourable)

Usage Note

Propicio agrees in gender and number: un momento propicio, una ocasión propicia. It is formal-register and collocates strongly with el momento propicio ('the right moment') and condiciones propicias ('favourable conditions'). It is closer to 'auspicious' than to everyday bueno or favorable.

Examples

"Esperaron el momento propicio para negociar."

Natural Translation

They waited for the right moment to negotiate.
