premiar

to award

verb preh-MYAHR Rare

Origin: From Latin praemiare (to reward).

Also means

to reward

Usage Note

Premiar means to give a prize or reward to someone: premiar al ganador (to award the winner). It is a regular -ar verb. The noun premio (prize) is far more frequent in everyday speech, so learners encounter it earlier. Do not confuse premiar with apremiar (to urge, to press), which has a very different meaning.
