Usage Note

Prefirer appears to be a non-standard spelling; the standard Spanish infinitive is preferir, an e→ie/i stem-changing verb. Prefiero, prefieres, prefiere in the present; prefirió, prefirieron in the preterite. It is followed by an infinitive or que + subjunctive: prefiero que vengas.
