Ponente refers to the person who presents a paper at a conference or who reports on a matter in a committee — closer to 'rapporteur' or 'presenter' than to a keynote 'speaker' (orador). It is common gender (el/la ponente). In legal contexts, ponente also means the judge who drafts the court's written opinion.
