Usage Note
Parón is an augmentative of paro and refers to a sudden, significant halt — in industrial output, economic activity, or sport (el parón invernal de la liga, the winter league break). It is almost exclusively a Spain-Spanish term; in Latin America paro or detención are more common. The plural is regular: parones.
