Usage Note
Oxidante functions as both an adjective (agente oxidante, oxidizing agent) and a noun (un oxidante fuerte, a strong oxidant). As an adjective it is invariable by gender. In chemistry it describes a substance that gains electrons and causes oxidation in another compound. Its opposite is reductor (reducing agent). The word is also used loosely in cosmetics (suero oxidante).
