oval

oval

adjective oh-BAHL Rare

Origin: Latin ovalis, from ovum (egg)

Usage Note

Oval is invariable in gender — una mesa oval, un espejo oval — unlike ovalado which has the full -o/-a/-os/-as endings. In practice both forms are used, but oval is more formal and precise (geometric term), while ovalado is more descriptive (egg-shaped, roughly oval). The two words are interchangeable in most contexts.

Examples

"La mesa oval encajaba perfectamente en el comedor."

Natural Translation

The oval table fit perfectly in the dining room.
