alargar

to lengthen

verb ah-lahr-GAHR Rare

Also means

to extend

Usage Note

Alargar takes a spelling change in its subjunctive/imperative: the g becomes gu before e (alargue). It is used for both physical lengthening (alargar un vestido) and temporal extension (alargar la reunión). The reflexive alargarse means 'to go on too long'.
