mira

sight, aim

noun MEE-rah Rare

Also means

intention, purpose

Usage Note

Mira primarily means the sight or aiming device on a firearm or optical instrument (ajustar la mira — to adjust the sight). In plural, miras commonly means aims or intentions (con miras a — with a view to, with the aim of). Note that mira is also the third-person singular imperative of mirar (look!), so context matters.

Examples

"El francotirador ajustó la mira del rifle."

Natural Translation

The sniper adjusted the rifle's sight.
