abusivo

abusive

adjective ah-boo-SEE-boh Rare

Also means

excessive, unfair

Usage Note

Abusivo describes behaviour that exceeds acceptable limits—abusive treatment, but also unfair pricing (precios abusivos) or excessive demands. It is not a false friend: English 'abusive' maps well to Spanish abusivo, though the 'excessive/unfair' sense is broader in Spanish usage. The related noun is abuso.

Examples

"Los precios de ese hotel son abusivos."

Natural Translation

The prices at that hotel are abusive.
