minado

mined; undermined

adjective mee-NAH-doh Rare

Usage Note

Minado is the past participle of minar used as an adjective. Literally it describes terrain that has been planted with mines ('campo minado' = minefield); figuratively, 'campo minado' is a very common idiom for a sensitive or treacherous situation. The figurative sense is probably more frequent in modern journalism than the literal one.

Examples

"El terreno estaba minado por explosivos."

Natural Translation
