Mina primarily means an underground mine (mina de carbón, mina de oro). It also means the graphite lead inside a pencil or the ink cartridge of a pen, a usage that surprises learners. In military contexts it means a landmine or naval mine. It should not be confused with mío/mía (possessive pronoun).
