Usage Note
Miedo is used with tener rather than ser/estar: tengo miedo means 'I am afraid' (literally 'I have fear'). Dar miedo means 'to frighten': me da miedo la oscuridad ('the dark frightens me'). The adjective miedoso means 'fearful' or 'cowardly'.
