Usage Note

Marinero is the ordinary enlisted sailor; a higher-ranked officer is oficial de marina. As an adjective it can mean 'nautical' or 'maritime' (estilo marinero). The feminine marinera also names a Peruvian coastal dance and a loose sailor's blouse.
