Laguna can mean a body of shallow water (a coastal lagoon or lake) as well as a gap in knowledge or a missing section in a text. The two senses are completely unrelated in context: una laguna costera is a coastal lagoon, while lagunas en la ley are loopholes or gaps in the law.
