Origin: From Japanese jūdō ('gentle way'), borrowed directly into Spanish.

Usage Note

Judo is a loanword from Japanese and is treated as masculine in Spanish (el judo). The RAE also admits the spelling yudo and the stressed variant judó. The practitioner is a judoca, invariable for both genders.
