Usage Note

Irrevocable is invariable in gender (same form for masculine and feminine) and is typically used in formal, legal, or emphatic contexts: una decisión irrevocable, un mandato irrevocable. It derives from revocar (to revoke) with the prefix ir- (not) and the suffix -able. In everyday speech, definitivo or sin vuelta atrás carry a similar meaning at a lower register.
