Usage Note
Inútil can describe a thing that serves no purpose (un esfuerzo inútil, a useless effort) or, colloquially, a person who is incompetent or hapless. As an invariable adjective it takes the same form for masculine and feminine, only changing its ending in the plural (inútiles). When applied to a person it can be quite cutting in tone.
