Usage Note

Investir does not mean 'to invest money' — that is invertir or inversionista. Investir means to formally confer a rank, title, or honour upon someone: investir a alguien con el grado de doctor ('to confer a doctorate on someone'). It is an -ir verb with stem changes following the pedir pattern (e-i). Confusing investir with invertir (to invest financially) is a common false-friend error.
