integral

integral

adjective een-teh-GRAHL Rare

Origin: Latin integralis (whole)

Also means

wholegrain

Usage Note

Integral means 'forming a complete whole' (parte integral = integral part) and in food labelling means 'wholegrain' (pan integral = wholemeal bread, arroz integral = brown rice). This food sense is a false friend: English 'integral' only carries the 'essential/whole' meaning, not the dietary one.

Examples

"El ejercicio es una parte integral de su rutina."

Natural Translation

Exercise is an integral part of his routine.
