Usage Note

Insistir is always followed by en when introducing the topic: insistió en que viniera ('she insisted that he come'). Unlike English 'insist on doing', Spanish requires the subjunctive in the subordinate clause. The stress falls on the final syllable, which trips up learners used to English patterns.
