indicio

indication, sign

noun een-DEE-syoh Less Common

Origin: From Latin indicium, from indicare ('to point out').

Also means

clue, hint

Usage Note

Indicio is often used in investigative or legal contexts for a piece of circumstantial evidence (indicios de culpabilidad), but it also covers everyday signs (el primer indicio de primavera). Unlike prueba ('proof'), an indicio is suggestive rather than conclusive — learners should not confuse the two.

Examples

"No hay ningún indicio de que saliera ayer."

Natural Translation

There is no indication that he left yesterday.
