Usage Note
Incompetencia refers to a lack of ability or skill to perform a required task — incompetencia profesional, incompetencia administrativa. The adjective is incompetente. Note that in legal Spanish incompetencia also has the specific sense of a court lacking jurisdiction (incompetencia del tribunal), distinct from the everyday sense of ineptitude.
