Usage Note
Humanidad can mean the whole of humankind (la humanidad entera = all of humanity) or the quality of being humane (trató a los prisioneros con humanidad). It also refers to the humanities as a field of study (las humanidades) — note the plural humanidades is the standard academic term. The initial h is always silent in Spanish.
