Usage Note

Huir is an irregular verb whose stem ends in a vowel, requiring a written y before endings beginning with a, e, or ohuyo, huyes, huye, huyen. The preterite third-person forms are also irregular: huyó, huyeron. It is followed by de when specifying what is fled from: huyó del país (he fled the country).
