Also means
freeze
Usage Note
Helada is the noun for a frost event — a night or period when temperatures drop below freezing (helada tardía = late frost). Do not confuse it with hielo (ice as a substance) or helado (ice cream / frozen as adjective). Agricultural forecasts use alerta de helada to warn of crop-damaging freezes.
Examples
"La helada nocturna dañó los cultivos de la región."
Natural Translation
The overnight frost damaged the region's crops.
