Usage Note
Harina is the staple baking ingredient and appears in many fixed expressions: ser harina de otro costal ('to be a different kettle of fish', literally 'to be flour from a different sack') is one of the most common Spanish idioms. Types include harina de trigo (wheat flour), harina de maíz (cornmeal), and harina integral (wholemeal flour). The h is silent, so the word begins with the /a/ vowel sound.
Examples
"Necesito dos tazas de harina para la receta."
Natural Translation
I need two cups of flour for the recipe.
