Origin: From Latin amarus (bitter).

Usage Note

Amargo describes a taste (the opposite of dulce), an emotion (grief, resentment), or a person's character (bitter, embittered). Café amargo is black unsweetened coffee. The verb amargar means to embitter: no dejes que te amargue la vida (don't let it ruin your life). The noun is amargura (bitterness, sorrow).
