Usage Note
Ganancial is a legal term used almost exclusively in family law; the key phrase is bienes gananciales (community property), the assets acquired by a married couple and owned jointly under the default Spanish matrimonial property regime. Couples who opt for separación de bienes (separate property) are not governed by the régimen de gananciales.
