Usage Note

Fuera is the adverb meaning 'outside' or 'away from' a place; fuera de (preposition) means 'outside of' or 'beyond' (fuera de lo normal = 'out of the ordinary'). It should not be confused with afuera, which is the Latin American equivalent — in Spain fuera is strongly preferred indoors/outdoors, while afuera is more common in the Americas. As an exclamation (¡Fuera!) it means 'Get out!'
