Usage Note
Forjar originally refers to shaping metal by heating and hammering, but in modern Spanish it is far more common in the figurative sense: forjar una carrera (to build a career), forjar lazos (to forge ties). The reflexive forjarse means to make something of oneself (se forjó a sí mismo = he is self-made). It is a regular -ar verb.
