Figura spans several registers: a geometric shape, a person's physique, a prominent public figure (una figura del deporte), and a rhetorical figure of speech (figura retórica). In sports and arts commentary it functions as a honorific — es toda una figura means 'he/she is a real star'. The verb figurar means 'to appear' or 'to be listed'.
