Figurar most commonly means to appear or feature in a list, document, or ranking: su nombre figura en el registro. In colloquial speech figurarse (reflexive) means to imagine or suppose: me figuro que sí (I suppose so). It differs from aparecer, which stresses the act of coming into view rather than being listed.
