farmacéutico

pharmaceutical

adjective noun fahr-mah-SEH-oo-tee-koh Less Common

Origin: From Greek pharmakeutikos, from pharmakon (drug).

Also means

pharmacist

Usage Note

Farmacéutico works as an adjective (industria farmacéutica, producto farmacéutico) and as a noun meaning 'pharmacist' (el farmacéutico / la farmacéutica). In Spain, the qualified person dispensing medicines in a farmacia is called farmacéutico, not farmacista (which is Italian). Informal speech shortens it to el farmacéutico de guardia (duty pharmacist).

Examples

"El farmacéutico le recomendó un antiinflamatorio."

Natural Translation

The pharmacist recommended an anti-inflammatory to him.
