Usage Note

Alergia follows the standard feminine -ia ending. The adjective alérgico (allergic) is commonly used in medical and everyday contexts — soy alérgico al gluten. Figuratively, tener alergia a algo means to have a strong aversion to something, e.g. tiene alergia al trabajo (he can't stand working), a colloquial expression.
