especulativo

speculative

adjective ehs-peh-koo-lah-TEE-boh Rare

Also means

theoretical

Usage Note

Especulativo describes both financial speculation (mercado especulativo) and philosophical conjecture (razonamiento especulativo). It is a false friend for English 'speculative' in only one direction: the financial sense is perfectly equivalent, but Spanish also uses it where English might say 'theoretical' or 'conjectural'. Feminine form: especulativa.

Examples

"El mercado inmobiliario tiene un componente especulativo."

Natural Translation

The property market has a speculative component.
