Usage Note

Encerrar is an e→ie stem-changing verb: encierro, encierras… The noun encierro derives from it and has a famous specific meaning: the running of the bulls in Pamplona (el encierro de San Fermín). The reflexive encerrarse means 'to shut oneself in' or 'to isolate oneself.'
