Antesala literally means the room before the main hall (ante- + sala), used as a waiting room outside an important office. Figuratively, estar en la antesala de algo means 'to be on the verge of something' (en la antesala de la victoria = 'on the brink of victory'). The figurative use is very common in journalism.
