Usage Note
Diferente is placed after the noun in the standard sense ('una idea diferente', 'a different idea'). Placed before the noun in the plural (diferentes personas) it shifts meaning to 'various' or 'several', much like varios — a placement worth noting. The adverb is diferentemente, though de otra manera is more natural in speech.
Examples
"Cada ciudad tiene un carácter diferente."
Natural Translation
Each city has a different character.
