Derivado functions as both adjective (producto derivado — by-product/derivative) and noun (un derivado del petróleo — a petroleum derivative). In linguistics derivado refers to a word formed from another by derivation. The verb is derivar; the feminine noun form derivada is the calculus term for 'derivative'.
