Usage Note

Corrosión is the gradual chemical or electrochemical deterioration of a material, typically a metal, by reaction with its environment. The most familiar example is herrumbre (rust) on iron. The related verb is corroer and the adjective corrosivo. Corrosion protection is a major field in materials engineering (ingeniería de materiales).
